Texas Long Range Plan for Technology Leadership 2006-2020

The Texas Long Range Plan 2006-2020 was in response to the NCLB signed into law in 2002. There are four domains in the Texas Long Range Plan: Teaching and Learning, Educator Preparation and Development, Leadership, Administrator and Instructional specialist, and Infrastructure.

For the purposes of campus and needs as a teacher, I would like to focus on Domain 2: Educator Preparation and Development. This Domain enables teachers to have resources, tools and education that provide students quality instruction.

Data from "Campus Statewide Summary by Key Area" for 2007-2008 reflects 74% of schools are "Developing”, my campus included. This data indicates only 40% of teachers are meeting the SBEC standards throughout the state. In 2006-2007 my campus was considered Advanced per our STaR chart ratings with 16 points. Due to the development of the Long Range Plan, numerous opportunities for staff development were held throughout my district in 2006-2007. However, the consecutive two years it fell to 14 points which ranks it at "Developing." This change was caused by campuses responsibility for ongoing training.

How will our students effectively meet the technology challenges that will await them if we as educators are not better prepared? Districts, administrators and teachers themselves must continue to increase teachers’ personal learning through ongoing professional development or continuing education. The most successful type of professional development is: job-embedded. Until teachers are better prepared and open to becoming co-learners with our students, we will not see improvements in our ratings.

The 2 links on the left side.

The two links on the left side are two blogs I have previously used. The one called "Two Tacos and a cup of Coffee" was one my husband and I created on our European trip, 2 years ago. During this trip he proposed to me in Paris so of course it was a memorable trip. I would have to say the link entitled "My European Adventure" is the most important link to me personally. It was the time in my life that I found out who I really am. Many people can go through life soul searching and never find themselves truly. This was the trip in which I went completely alone hoping to figure myself out and find all the answers. It was a trip of a lifetime that changed me forever. It is a diary of sorts through all my soul searching, fears and accomplishments. It is very important to me and to who I am today. The funny thing is just 2 weeks after I returned from Europe in 2006 I ran into my husband at a Starbucks (long story, for another day).

Why to the future and beyond, you ask?

Not only did I like Toy Story because my little cousin made me watch a hundred times but I think it fits me at the moment. I have just begun my master program which is preparing me for a better future for myself and also my students. It is giving me the tools and resources to continue my education now and througout my future. I have chosen "Technology Leadership" because I feel that it is where our education system is headed or needs to be heading and I would love to help lead it that way. Our students need to become a apart of a global community in order to succeed and technology is the way to link them.
